EIFA - Brussels - Sheikh Rafi Al-Rifa'i, the Sunni Grand Mufti of Iraq has condemned attacks on the Iraqi Kurdistan region.

"It is not logic that the Kurdistan region be targeted while the people of Kurdistan gave shelter to more than a million displaced people," Sheikh Al-Rifa'i said in an interview with the Al-Taghyir TV channel. "This revolution was launched to fight the oppressors and not to fight our brothers in Kurdistan who themselves are attacked by paramilitary forces," he added.

“Those fighting against the regional government (of Kurdistan) are not from the revolutionaries and are following another agenda," he warned.

"There are those who have an agenda of splitting up Iraq and want this revolution to fail. Those who attack Kurdistan and displace people want to help Maliki and are following Iran's agenda. Attacking Kurdistan is aimed to make the Sunnis and Kurds against each other. People must be on alert about this.
"My message to the revolutionaries is be aware. Do not allow them to infiltrate and abuse you, your aims must remain what we rose up for, we and the Kurds are in the same path."
